ACT Alliance Nominations and Elections Process for the Governing Board and the Membership and Nominations Committee (MNC)

ACT Alliance will be holding its fourth face-to-face General Assembly October 28- November 1, 2024 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia where a new Governing Board and Membership and Nominations Committee (MNC) will be elected for the next governance cycle (2024-2027).

According to the process agreed by the Governing Board, the ACT membership participates in the different stages that lead to the development of the final slate of candidates.

This includes putting forward nominees, participating in the ACT Alliance national forums (or sub-regional and regional forums or global forum, where relevant) where the endorsement of candidates take place by sending any formal objections to any of the candidates on the list to the MNC and finally, voting on a slate of candidates presented by the MNC to the General Assembly, ensuring that a balance based on gender, geography, professional competencies, confession, and continuity is upheld.

The Governing Board is composed of up to twenty-two (22) members distributed between:

Global bodies:(permanent seat)

  • WCC Representative
  • LWF Representative

Regional Representation:

  • 3 from Africa
  • 3 from Asia
  • 3 from Western Europe
  • 3 from Meso America, South America and the Caribbean
  • 2 from North America (USA and Canada)
  • 1 from Eastern and Central Europe
  • 1 from the Pacific nations, Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand
  • 1 from the Middle East
  • 1 from the Global members

Youth representation:

  • 2 seats assigned to Youth

 

The Membership and Nominations Committee shall have up to five (5) members based on:

  • A balance between the ‘Global South and the Global North’
  • Nominees having an excellent understanding of membership criteria
  • Nominees having long term experience and deep knowledge of the ecumenical movement
  • Nominees having an excellent understanding of the ACT Alliance

  • Nominations to be received by forum conveners by January 31, 2024
  • Forums endorse candidates by February 28, 2024
  • MNC reviews candidates by March 31, 2024
  • Members submit additional candidates (if necessary) by April 30, 2024
  • MNC shares list of candidates to all ACT Alliance members by June 15, 2024
  • ACT Alliance members communicate any formal objections to candidates by July 15, 2024
  • MNC considers and decides on any objections by July 31, 2024
  • MNC sends final list of candidates to ACT Alliance members by September 15, 3024
  • MNC presents the final slate(s) for the election of the Governing Board at the Assembly
  • MNC presents the slate(s) for the Governing Board Officers at the Assembly
  • MNC presents the slate for the Executive Committee at the Assembly
  • The Governing Board presents the slate for the MNC at the Assembly
  • ACT Alliance members elect the Governing Board, officers, and MNC at the Assembly
  • New Governing Board elects the Executive Committee at the Assembly
